Author Interview : Winna Lim

Hello everyone! It's time for another autor interview. I love author interviews because it gives people an opportunity to see what successful did right on their journeys.
This interview is with Winna Layarda, the author of  " Till Seth Do Us Part. "
“ In your own words, please tell us about yourself. “
First and foremost, I would love to say a big Thank You to Umairah for being interested in my book as well as hosting this interview.
Let’s see what I can say about myself. My actual name is Winna Lim, and Layarda is my husband’s last name. I am 25 years old this year. I was born in Indonesia but I spent the first twenty years of my life mostly in Singapore (childhood, education, college). I resides in Indonesia now after I got married.
I majored in Hospitality and Tourism for Diploma, and I did my internship for half a year. After that, I proceed to get a Business Degree.
While in High school, I was a librarian at my school’s library. But I never read any book from there, except Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ book on their Royal Wedding. It was heavy, I remember. I was never a full time book worm. Ironic, isn’t it? And the only book that I ever finish reading during that time is Chinese Cinderella, by Adeline Yen-Ma. Perhaps I was more into biography more than Fiction.

“ Who are your favorite writers, your favorite books, and who or what are your writing influences? “
If this question was asked few years ago, I wouldn’t be able to provide more than five authors. I wasn’t a book worm, as I mentioned. Few years ago, I read only the books by J K Rowling’s, Alexandra Potter’s, Sophie Kinsella’s , Stephenie Meyers’ and last but not least, Adeline Yen-Ma.
Right now, I have a vast collection of my favourite Author’s book. I have bought more than thirty book since I start a full time reading.  It started during the begining of this year. You must be wondering about how did I manage to write a book if I didn’t read a lot. I wonder about that as well. But, I watched movies and dramas. That is how I got my ‘lessons’ from.
My favourite writer has always been Alexandra Potter and Sophie Kinsella. In my opinion, they are the royalty of Chick Lit genre. But right now, I have another favourite Chick Lit author, Joanna Bolouri.  They have always been my inspiration for Chick Lit related issues.
Rainbow Rowell, Stephanie Perkins and Colleen Hoover, their books are awesome! Colleen Hoover is able to craft her male character into the man that is so perfect and loveable.  Stephanie Perkins can creates a love story that made me wish I was the character inside. Rainbow Rowell book is unique, her setting and her plot, especially Attachments, her writing style varies from other writers, I have no rush reading till the last page.
I can mention my favourite here, but it will be a lot, like really a lot. Maybe I’ll just mention the books that leaves the deepest impression. Ugly Love & Hopeless by Colleen Hoover. Anna and the French Kiss by Staphanie Perkins. I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella.

“ What led you into writing? Was it a lifelong ambition, or the result of some type of turning point in your life? ”
I don’t think writing is inside my bloodline, because none of my family became a writer or associated with any of that.
But I do remember, there is one sleepless night when I was fourteen, I suddenly have this urge about writing my own story. It’s like what they said, if you can’t find your favourite book, write it. Maybe, the sudden adventurous mode just pump inside my mind that night.
I did took a notebook, a blue one, which belongs to my cousin’s. Being at that age, I still loved fairy tales a lot. I remember I wrote for about three pages. I didn’t finish that book eventually, and I never had a serious thought about being a writer. I started reading again only during that time where the movie ‘Twilight’ became so popular that I had to get a copy.

“ When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer? “
Writing a novel for me was something I have always deemed as impossible, not to mention publishing. My husband has been supportive all the while. Initially, he brings up this idea about writing novel, and I still laugh at him. It was only when I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey where I went to Google and search for E L James’ successful story for this book, it was then I realized ‘Hey, it is possible!’
Maybe the only thing that is dragging me back was the inaccessibility and believing that publishing a book is impossible. However, the inaccesibility was solved when I found out that Smashwords provides a platform for Indie Writers to have a place to sell their book. A big THANKS to Mark Coker and his team.

“ If there was one thing you could tell your readers, what would it be? “
Thank you.
I couldn’t be more grateful to have someone reading my book, even if there is only one person.

“ Tell us more about your book. ”
Let me introduce to you the main characters of this book. My heroine, Abby Fischer, and my hero, Seth Winston.
